Re: Clarification of Map in Hunt v. Cromartie, No. 98-85

Dear Mr. Suter:

The purpose of this letter is to make a clarification regarding the legend on the map

appearing at 12a in the State Appellants’ Reply Brief on the Merits. which was filed with the Court

on December 29, 1998.

The map at 12a, “Forsyth County District 12 Precincts,” depicts District 12 precincts with

lower democratic registration rates than adjacent non-District 12 precincts. The “red” legend of this

map should note that there are no such precincts in this county. Compare Mecklenburg County Map

at 11a, where the legend notes there are no such precincts; contrast Guilford County Map at 13a,

which shows there are two such precincts.

Enclosed please find the required additional 40 copies of this letter for distribution to the

Court as appropriate.

Very truly yours, J
