LDF ASKS THAT NEGRO PRISONERS
IN SOUTHERN JAILS BE ALLOWED
TO READ NEGRO PUBLICATIONS

Psychiatric Consultant Says Rehabilitation is Helped

NEW YORK---The LDF has launched a campaign to assure perpetuation

of a positive self-image, and identity with the black community,

for black prisoners in southern jails.

Much of recent psychological and sociological findings

indicates that human behavior is directly dependent upon how

one views himself. And, one's self-image is directly

dependent upon how he is treated in his immediate environment.

The Negro press is without peer in presenting an up-to-

date account of the black experience. The LDF, backed by

professional scientific endorsement (see Dr. Milford Parker

statement enclosed), is attempting to use the legal process

to deal creatively with the problem of the crisis in black

identity.
