MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMITTING PLAN

Come now Defendants Lawrence County, Alabama, Larry Smith

and Dan Ligon and respectfully request an extension of time

through and including August 11, 1986, for submitting a new

election plan to the Department of Justice for preclearance

under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended.

For grounds, Defendants state that because of the necessity of

obtaining additional population information from the Bureau of

the Census, the Lawrence County plan cannot be ready by the

existing deadline of August 1, 1986. Counsel for the Plain-

tiffs have agreed to the requested extension of time because of

the necessity of getting more data.

Respectfully submitted,

D.L mehr 411
LD. L.,. Martin, 111
