MEDIA ADVISORY 

Texas Attorney General Dan Morales has schedulzd public hearings in Dallas 

and Houston on his proposal for the selection of State District Judges and on changes 

in the way campaigns are financed. 

The public hearing in Houston will be at 2 p.m., ¥eidnesday, March 3, 1993 at 

the South Texas College of Law, 1303 San Jacinto, Hous on, 

The public hearing in Dallas will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 5, 1993 at the J 

Erik Johnsson Central Library, 1515 Young at Ervay Sitrect, Dallas. 

Morales has said the current method of elacting $tatz District Judges should not 

be maintained. The current system does not provide fair and equal participation by 

minorities and is discredited by the evils inherent in campaigns dominated by special 

interests. : 

Federal courts already have ruled that the state's system violates the U.S. Voting 

Fights Act. 

Morales’ plan will have been presented to the Governcr and the Legislative 

leadership prior to the hearings.
