RE: Janet Sabel

Dear Mr. GiIIers:

I am happy to write an evaluation of Janet Sabel,s work
in her fall- semester as a student intern with the NAACP
Legal Defense Fund. Janet Sabel worked with me from
September 1982 through January 1983. Her primary re-
sponsibility was to organize a legislative history on the
1982 extension and amendment of the Voting Rights Act.
In addition, she prepared several memoranda on discrete
issues, including the viability of fi1in9 a habeas corpus
petition when the petitioner had been released on parole.

Ms. Sabelrs outstanding qualities are her commitment to
her work and her enthusiastic follow through on even the
most mundane assignments. She is cooperative, diligent
and attentive to details, but what impresses me even more
is her cheerful thoroughness when working under pressure
or other stress-inducing conditions. 14s. Sabel is not
intimidated by a lack of structure or direction in her
assignments; she thinks about the issues on her own and
then devises her own, well organized structuret oy she asks
appropriate, sometimes persistent, questions to insure that
our goals are mutually understood.

I must also emphasize the clarity of her writing, which flows
directly from her other gualities. She is not content with
ambiguous Iegalistic short cuts or cover ups, but presses
forward with care to write straigtflEorward prose that d,eals
with the fundamental issues.
