On Monday, July 20, Paul (Bear) Bryant, football coach and athietic director 
of the University of Alabama, will appear in Federal Court to answer allegations 
that he and the university discriminate against black athletes at the 
University of Alabama. 
Lawyers for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund have taken depositions from black 
high school athletes and black coaches across the state of Alabama, alleging 
discrimination on the part of Bear Bryant for not recruiting or encouraging 
black athletes in the state of Alabama, or at the University of Alabama to 
participate in its athletic program. 
The trial will be conducted in Tuscaloosca, Ala. For further information
