Attorneys for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund today 

(February 16, 1966) filed suit in Federal District Court in Ree N.Cey 

pesktey to permanently enjoin Raleigh's Wake County Memorial Hospital 

from discriminating against Negroes. i ae 

The Legal Defense Fund complaint, filed in behalf of eight Raleigh 

citizens, including two white ministers, alleges that the hospital has 

received more than $3 million in federal funds for new construction under 

the Hill-Burton Act. 
The federal courts have held that hospitals receiving Hill-Burton 

funds may not se racial discriminations oe 

The facility also receives federal funds for welfare administration, 

and has received "substantial funds" from the State of North Carolina and 

from Wak@ County, the plaintiffs allege. ee
