Lega Derense And EDucaTionaL FUND, INC. 10 Columbus Circle, New York, N.Y. 10019 JUDSON 6-8397 April 1, 1964 MEMORANDUM TO: SELECTED EDITORS FROM: Jesse DeVore Director, Public Information Jack Greenberg, director-counsel ofthe NAACP Legal Defense Fund, made the following statement eoday upon learning of a decision handed down today by. the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, Richmond, Va. prohibiting discrimination against Negro physicians in James Walker Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, N.C.: "This case: is somewhat different from the Greensboro, N.C, Hill-Burton case, which we won and the Supreme Court refused to review on March 2nd, It therefore significantly extends the coverage of the constitution to other governmentally connected hospitals.
