Dear Friend:

Thank you for participating in the December L4, 1984 Voter
Registration Conference. For those of you who were unable
to attendr w€ appreciate your interest in working with us.
Enclosed with this letter is the revised list of conference
partj-cipants. Also included are people who, though u.nable
to attend the conference, expressed an interest in remain-
ing on a mailing list. If you have additional names to
suggest or if you know of people inadvertently exc}uded,
please 1et me know.

As a result of the conference, we have established three
steering committees to follow up on ideas and programs for
eliminating barriers to voter registration. The committees
are (1) a lega1 steering committee to share litigation strat,-
egies i (21 a legislative task force to review and, propose
legislation, and to recommend appropriate courses of action
at the national level; and (3) a research and education com-
mittee to explore and study proof problems posed by iitioation,
prepare expert testimony, develop a pool of sociaf scier,ce
experts in registratj-on and voting rights, encourage research
and writing on the subject, and maintain a data bank of reg-
istration information. The steering committees ra,'ill be meeting
several times over the next six months. A list of proposed
mernbers is attached. If you are interested in joining a
specific committee and. your name is not on the iist, please
co;tact me or, for the legislative +-ask force, Ralph Neas.
Only those persons on the committee membership list will be
notified of committee meeti-ngs.

We are preparing an annotated bibliography of articles and
publications relating to voter registration. If you have
anything to add or wou1d, Iike to receive a copy, pLease 1et
me know.

We hope to convene again as a group later in the year to assess
our progress. Please keep us informed in the interim of any
