Mr. G. F. Ganucheau, Chief Deputy
Clerk, United States Court of
Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
400 Royal Street - Room 408
New Orleans, Louisiana 70130

Dear Mr. Ganucheau:

Re: Nos. 28030 and 28042 - United States v.
Hinds County School Board, et al.:
Beatrice Alexander, et al. v. Holmes
County Board of Education, et al.

Private plaintiffs in the above-referenced cases
intend to petition the United States Supreme Court for
a writ of certiorari to this court to review its order
of August 28 which amended its earlier order of July 3.

This letter will confirm my oral request made to
you by telephone this date that a certified copy of all
proceedings constituting the record on appeal in these
cases be prepared by your office and forwarded to the
office of the clerk of the Supreme Court in Washington.
As I indicated by phone, such record should include the
proceedings in the district court from which an appeal
was taken eventuating in the order of July 3 as well as
the subsequent proceedings resulting in the order of
August 28.

I appreciate the burden on your staff in compiling
this record for transmission, but I hope it can be done
as guickly as possible since private plaintiffs in these
cases expect to petition the Supreme Court promptly in an
effort to obtain a ruling prior to the opening of the
court's regular term.

I would appreciate it if you would inform me when
the record is forwarded to the clerk of the Supreme Court.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Norman C. Amaker
