Dear Paul.:

f am writing regarding the voting rights conference LDF is
co-sponsoring later this month in San Antonio. (I have enclosed
another set of our most recent mailing in case you no longer have
the set we sent last month. )

9rle are anxious to have both you and Gerry Hebert participate
as discussion leaders on Friday afternoon. 9{ith regard to the
session on expert testimony, the other leader wi]1 be Peyton
McCrary. We are particul.arly eager to have Gerry on that panei
because of tris writings on the use of experts, particularly his
most recent work-in-progress with Peyton concerning the rol.e of
experts in voting rights litigation. As for the discussion
session on section 5, I am schedule<i to be the other leader.
Itrs obviously essential to have the Department represented at
this discussion. Of course, w€ hope you will be able to attend
the rest of the conference as weLi.

P1ease feel free to call Lani or me if you have any
questions. We both very much hope you and Gerry can make it.

Sincerely,

Pamef a S. Karl.an
