Re: Martin v. A11ain

Dear Rob:

Enclosed is a check for S29l.o2 which covers your most recent
reguest for reimbursement of expenses incurred in the Martin
case. Pam is checking the case budget to determine how much of
the funds LDF' allocated to this litigation have now been spent.
Once we have that final figure, w€ will be happy to discuss with
you Chandler Davidson's biII. I am returning his bill and
receipts, however, because our prelirninary investigation suggests
we have already spent $10,556.00 on this case. This sum does not
include Pam's travel to the trial or the 929L.O2 we are sending
with this letter. Since Debbie Fins' file memos indicate that a
budget of $10,000.00 was approved for this case, it seems
unlj-kely, if the figures check out, that LDF will pay Chandlerrs
fee. Norma1ly, in fact, LDF only pays for expert witnesses we
retain and staff lawyers work with, but f understand this case
presents special circumstances. Of course, dny moneywe have paid
to you will be recoverable as part of our fees. However,
pursuant to our cooperating attorney agreement, you should seek
the funds we have paid you directly from the defendants and then
reimburse LDF. All money paid for expenses are then distributed
first out of any fee award.

Parn will be available after May 1 to answer any questions and to
report the actual total paid.

Sincerely,
'

,, , a.
'Lani Guinier
