"PRINCE HALL: PIONEER OF PROTEST"
a musical/narrative

vorces, INC,

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

TO: Conference of Grand Masters
PRINCE HALL MASONS F & AM

FROM: Dr, John W, Davis, Special Director
Department of Teacher Information and Security
NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

The role Prince Hall played, as a pioneer of Negro

freedom -- in an era when the English colonies were fighting

for their freedom -- is still reflected in the Negro freedom

movement of today.

Prince Hall's 18th century vision -- in political,

educational, religious and organizational life -- has become

a 20th century vehicle of protest for Negro Americans.

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund has asked

the VOICES, INC., -- specialists in Negro life and culture, to

render, through music and drama the story of Prince Hall and

the movement he fathered.

This is but another attempt to express our abiding

appreciation for the pioneering work of the Prinee Hall

Masons in financing the civil rights struggle, through the

support of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, © =
