Come now the Lincoln County School District, the Superintendent thereof, and 

the members of the County Board of Education of Lincoln County, Mississirnl, defondmts- 

appellees in the above styled and numbered cause, and respectfully respond to the 

order rendered in said cause on March 30, 1970, by the United States Circuit Court of 

Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, by reporting that as of April 2, 1970, the following 

facts with reference to said school district are correct: 

I, 

(a) There are 2,187 students enrolled in the Lincoln County School District, 

of wham 1,292 are white and 905 are black. 

(b) The number of students by race enrolled in each school of the Lincoln

(a) There are 113 full time teachers in the Lincoln County School District, 

of whom 76 are white and 37 are black, 

(b) The mumber of full time teachers by race in each school of the district

No requests have been received under the majority to minority transfer 

vision which was a part of the Court's order of November 7, 1969.

IV, 

No inter—district transfers have been granted since the Court rendered its 

order of November 7, 1969, 

Ve 

The transportation system of the Lincoln County School District involves the 

use of 40 school busses. Twenty-six busses are operated by white drivers and 14 are 

operated by black drivers. Fourteen of the 40 busses carry children only of one race. 

Eight of the 14 busses operated by black drivers carry all black students. Six of the 

26 busses: operated by white drivers carry all white students. 

VI. 

All facilities in the school district, including gymasiums, auditoriums and 

cafeterias, are being operated on a desegregated basis, 

VII. 

There is no present construction or expansion of facilities and none is pre- 

sently proposed. 

VIII. 

There has been no sale or abandonment of any school facility, equipment, or 

supplies having a total value of more than $500.00 since the Court's order of November 

7, 1969, 

IX, 

(a) There is a bi-racial advisory committee to the school board in the school 

district. 

(b) No recommendations to the Board of Education have been submitted by the 

committee since Noverber 7, 1969. 

(c) [Same as (b)]. 

(d) The principal areas of the education process in which the committee is 

to function are (1) to consider and approve or disapprove projects dealing with 

remedial education and "catch-up" programs for the disadvantaged, (2) to bring to 

the attention of the school administration complaints and rumors concerning the 

operation of an integrated school system and (3) to aid in establishing the true 

facts relating to such camwplaints and rumors.
