[ We are holding an unprecedented one day briefing seminar for
national officers of THE LINKS, INCORPORATED here in our New York
City headquarters on Wednesday, July 22nd at 11:00 AM,
The Links are perhaps the most prestigious and influential group
of women within the national Negro community. The informal discus-
sions with members of our legal staff will begin at 11:00 in the
morning, break for a luncheon at the Nassau Suite B in the New York
Statler Hilton and resume for about two hours in the afternoon.
The purpose of this

contribution pledge the Legal Defense Fund
has received from a woman's organization in our 25 year history.
It also belies the accusation that Negroes are not making signifi-
cant contributions to their own movement.
We are inviting you to attend this seminar and observe the
informal sessions, attend the luncheon and cover a press conference,
at which we hope to make a substantive news announcement,
Among the Links attending will be Mrs. Minnie Gaston (with her
husband), whose motel in Birmingham, Ala. has served as the head-
quarters of the freedom movement in that city, with the result that
it and their home have been bombed several times. The last bombing
took place on the same day they were guests of President and Mrs,
Kennedy at the White House.
Other Links guests will include: Mrs. Vivian J. Beamon, national
president, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Norvleate Downing, corresponding
secretary, Newport News, Va.; Mrs, Elreta Alexander, Esq., Greensboro,
N.C.; Mrs. Bessie Hill, eastern area chairman, Orange, N.J.; Dr.
Anna Julian, vice-president, Oak Park, I1l1.; Mrs. Sarah S. Scott,
co-founder, Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. Bernice Munce, youth services,
Trenton, N.J.; Mrs. Pauline Weeden, past national president,
Lynchburg, Va.; Mrs. Ruth McCants, Wilberforce, Ohio; and Mrs.
Eula Trigg, coordinator of the Links-Legal Defense Fund Campaign,
Washington, D.C,
Each one of these women is an accomplished professional in her
own field. We trust that you will find this feature material.
