Released March 22, 1968:
A Negro workman today asked the U.S. District Court in
Houston to grant a permanent injunction enjoining the Rohm-Haas
Chemical Co. from continuing to maintain policies and practices
which prevent Negroes from transferring to higher paying and more
desirable jobs by means of a test which LDF attorneys allege is
"not professionally developed" and which was not given to white
employees.
Plaintiff Felix Barnaba, acting in behalf of himself and other
Negroes, also charges that racially segregated departments are
maintained by Rohm-Haas which limit Negroes to "lower paying and
less desirable jobs" and prevent their transfer and promotion to
higher paying jobs. Mr. Barnaba, through attorneys of the NAACP
Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), charges that
Rohm-Haas maintains a seniority system which also limits Negroes
to "lower paying and less desirable jobs" in racially segregated
departments.
