Spokesmen from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., 
the Medical Committee for Human Rights and the National Medical Association 

ll discuss results of a Wednesday meeting with Department of Health, 
Education and Welfare secretary John W, Gardner, at a press conference 
Thursday morning, December 16th at the Executive. Room of the Hay-Adams House, 
800 16th Street, N. W., Washington, D. C., at 10 AM, A detailed 
memorandum, outlining discrimination trends and problems in some 2,000 
southern hospitals and medical facilities,’ plus recommendations for 
improvement, will be made available for working press. 

Spokesmen are expected to discuss administration of Medicare funds, 
HEW*s personnel and procedures for enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights 
Act, ch calls for withholding Federal Funds from Jim Crow facilities, and 
the status of more than one hundred complaints of discrimination in 
federally assisted hospitals filed this year by the Legai Defense Fund and--@_ 
the NAACP (separate organizations), and the medical organizations,
