ALLAN KNIGHT CHALMERS © ee President Jack Greenberg General Counsel Constance Baker Motley Associate Counsel PRINCE HALL SHRINERS DONATE $5,000 TO LEGAL DEFENSE FUND October 10, 1961 NEW YORK - The NAACP Legal Defensé and Educational Fund received a $5,000 donation from the Imperial Council of Prince Hall Shriners this week. The donation was the annual Shriner con- tribution to the NAACP Legal Research Fund. The presentation was made by Charles Dargan, Natl. Director of the Shriner's NAAGP Foundation Drive, to outgoing Director- Counsel Thurgood Marshall in the Legal Defense Fund offices at 10 Columbus Ciréle, New York City: John Lewis, Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons of Louisiana; William Kilpatrick, Sr., of Nabar Temple, Atlanta, Ga.; Baxter F. Jackson, Medina Temple, New York, N. Y.; Rev. E. Harrison Clark, a past Potentate, and Leon Berry, Deputy Imperial Potentate were present at the ceremony. Mr. Marshall cited the Shriners for their continued annual support of the Legal Defense Fund and its activities. Mr. Marshall who is himself a Noble of the Mystic Shrine and an active member of Medina Temple No. 19 in New York City, resigned last week to take a federal judgeship, culminating twenty-five years of service to the legal work of the NAACP. = 30-5
