Guinier: The taw Journal of the North Carolina Central University School of Iaw is inteiEtEd-Gl*lishing scholarly and well-researched papers about minority rights, race relations, discrirnination in employment and educatlonl etc. We would like your assistance in this end, eavor. To our knowledge, there is no national legal writing competitlon oriented torrard minority issues. Given the need to focus attention on these issues, such a compe- ti.ti.on seems worthwhile. we propose that the !{AACP Legal Defense Fund in'conjunction vrith the North Carolina Central Law Journal sponsor a national competition for 1aw students and lawyers. The best papers would receive a monetary award and would be published in the Ianv ilor:rnal. The Law ilournal would complete the necessa:rir editing ana pre-pub1icEFi.on procedures. In addition, thb Iaw Jor:rnal would conduct whatever necesstrry activ- . ities your organization chose not to undertake €.9r7 printing and mailing posters to annorxrce the corpetitlon, defining the schedule for sutmission and evaluation, evaluating the papers, acknowledging receipt of papersr annor:ncing the wLnners, etc. We are flexible on the division of responsibility, and these matters could be resolved as the conpetitlon becomes further defined. We propose that yout organiza- tion could revLew and approve all aspects of the ccurpetition procedures. our estifiate of the expenses for wtrich we would request the support of the I.IAACP Iegal Defense Fund is as follows: First'Prize $1000.
