Dear Mrs. Colvin:
It was very nice to talk with you- I hope you
will consider coming to Montgomery on February 4
or 5 to the courtroom of Judge Myron Thompson.
As I told you on the phone, Judge Thompson, who
is black, wilt be listening to the t'estimony of
black people from all over Alabama. These people
will ba testifying about their experiences trying
to vote and their feelings about going down to the
poIls. The purpose of our lawsuit is to get the
judge to order the various county officials in
praces like Pickens to appoint at least some blacks
ls election officials. We feel, like You, that
blacks have more confidence in going to vote when
they see blacks working as election officials at
the poI}s,
I will be getting back in t,ouch with you to find
out if you can attend the trial. In the meantime,
give me a call collect if you have 1ny-questions.or
it you think of any more examples of blacks in Pickens
being discouraged from voting.
Thanks again for Your time.
