Dear !lrs. Bozeman:

Each year at its Annual Convention, the A. Philip Randolptt

This year, our 1982 Annua1 Conference will be held fron June 18

e:rpect that over 11200 Randolph rnstitute activists will take part
in what wilr be the largest and mogt significant gathering of brack
trade wrlonists in 1982.

On the basis of conversations with Dr. Joe L. Reed, Associate
Director of the Alabana Education Association, and J.L. chestnut, it
is our understanding that you and !{rs. Wilder have agEeed to honor
us by accepting thi.s yearrs A. Philip Randolph Freedor Award in recog-
nition of your dedication to the principles of black voter partici-
Pation and of your strong belief in the democratic process. Our Award
was established in 1975 and previous recipients have included Roy
!{ilkins, Dorothy Height, Rep. Augrustus Hawkins, and former secretary
of Labor Ray l{arshall.

This yearrs presentation will be made at our eward Dinner which
will be held on saturday, Jure L9 at z:30 p.m. The Award bangr.let, the
highlight of our threetay neeting, is regarded by the rabor rcvement
as ;rn iryortant ptrblic event. l{e hope in this srall way to pr:blicize
your case among comrurity and labor leaders who conprise the Randolph
rcvement.

l{e invite you to join us for ttre duration of our conference and
would make and provide all necessary travel and accomodations arrange-
nents. Itle understand that you will need the approval of local authori-
ties in order to be given permission to travel out of state to receive
the Award. rf \de cErn be of any help in this regard, please do not
