Dear l[s. Lharnon and ]ls. Uitchell:
We received your letter of December 14, L987, regarding

intenriewing first-year law students for sumner jobs. The NAACp
Legal Defense Fund hires roughly 10 first-year students each
Eurrmer. Our summer program has conslstently hired students from
YaIe. (Last sunmer, Cathy Scarborough, '89, and Lewis Liman,
'87, worked in our New York office.) Unfortunately, we complete
our selection process by the end of January, since we do not
distinguish between first- and second-year students. Thus, it
would uake little sense for us to come up to Yale in late
February.

We would, however, Iike to encourage interested first-years
to- contact us directlyr Eo that we can schedule interviews with
them at our office here in New York. The person in charge of our
tunmer program for 1988 is Lowell Johnston, our First Assistant
Counsel.

Please let ne know if there is any additional Lnfomation
that would be helpful to you or to students interested in working
at the Legal Defense Fund.

Slqcerely,
