ART EXHEBIT BENEFITS
‘ NAACP LEGAL DEFENSE,
NEW YORK-- The NAACP Legal Defense Fund netted $2,000 on the first
day of a 10-day art festival being held in its behalf at the
Brooklyn Museum this week,
More than 1,000 persons visited the exhibit on its first day,
It was coordinated by three Brooklyn housewives who decided to "do
something about the current struggle for human rights,"
Prices range from $5.00 for photographs to $7,500 for "Quedado",
“a six-by-eight foot abstract by the noted artist; Elaine DeKooning,
ho was first to contribute her work to the exhibit.
However, by the time the exhibit was ready to open, 160 artists
had responded, including painters Ad Reinhardt, Hale Woodruff and
Larry Rivera, sculptor Harry Bertoia and photographer Richard Avedon,

The originators of the project are Mrs. Virginia Cantarella,

The exhibit, which is open during daily museum hours and
