I just eranted to comnend and thank you for your
work on the Voting Rights Act extension.
Your efforts vrere of great assistance to me and
my staff in working out the compromise in Corunittee as
well as in defending the legislation during debate on
the Senate floor. Throughout the process, I was impressed
by the dedication and comnitment which you and other
menbers of the civil rights comnurtity e>rlribited in
working to get thj.s legisiation through the Senate.
It was in large part thrcugh you.r efforts that today's
historic signing ceremony took 5:,1ace.
