Dear Mr. Winter:

This is with reference to your letter of 
September 26, 1979, requesting participation by this 
Department in Garner v. Memphis Police Department, 
C-75-145 (W.D. Tenn.). Your request will be given 
full consideration.

We would appreciate it if you would keep this 
Department informed of the status of the case before 
the district court, in particular with reference to 
your request for additional discovery and hearings with 
respect to the policies and practices of the municipal 
defendants.
