Gentlemen:

There being no good news, I will get right to the bad 
news. Judge Roth has established the following schedule in the 
Detroit school case:

1. March 14, 1972 at 10;00 a.m, Hearing 
on Detroit city-wide desegregation plans,

2. March 14, 1972 at 10:00 a,m, -^Recommen*-* 
dations on conditions for interventions 
are due.

3. March 22, 1972— Briefs on the necessity and 
the propriety of a metropolitan solution 
are due.

4. March 28, 1972— Hearing on metropolitan plans.
Judge Roth expects to rule on the applications for inter­

vention by March 15, 1972; he also expects to rule on the propri­
ety of "metro" by March 24, 1972.

I bring this matter to your immediate attention because 
the foregoing schedule is in direct conflict with every page of
