Dear Tony:

I enclose a copy of the district court opinion and order
appointing Vanietta and me counsel, authorLzLng PaymenE
o'f'or= feEs and some of our exPenses. The Court disallows
all of my travel exPenses on the Bfound thag petitioners
could have hired Lotal counsel. this is consistenE wiEh
a restrict.ive local rule in the Middle District of Alabama
(Rule 2) prohibitng outside counsel froqr litigating civil
rights cases only.- Do you think there is a basis for
chillenging either the tourt's order or the local rule
(copy attached) ?

I also enclose a copy of Lhe respondents' reply brief to
our resporrse to theil 50(b) motion, their request filed
in the Lourt of Appeals not to take any actioq pendilg-a
ruling on their ObiU) motion, and the_Court of Appeals'
order"denying our motion Eo dismiss the appeaL as untimely.

pending motions.
