A year-end review of m jor civil rights gains b ° a a © a
and standoffs will be presented by Jack Greenberg, Director-
Counsel, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, who will discuss how
LDF addressed, in 1978, post-Bakke challenges to affirmative
action in education and employment ineluding our suit de-
fending the Mayor of Detroit in a challenge by white police
officers to his affirmative action plan for the Police Depart-—
ment; the national campaign a, nst the death penalty; the
shifting Supreme Court coalitions and their effect on civil
rights law; other areas of race discrimination. A brief
presentation (30 minutes) by Greenberg and a few LDF staff
lawyers will be followed by a question and answer session.
