OFFENDER'S ACCOUNT OF CURRENT OFFENSE: "The only thing I can tell you is that I am not guilty and I am in the process of appealing this case. The hearing is set for January 5, 1971." IV. PRIOR CRIMINAL HISTORY: Subject inmate is a first offender who admits to no juvenile incarcerations and his FBI report shows that this represents his first arrest. V. HOME AND FAMILY BACKGROUND: Inmate McClesky was the second of three illegitimate children born to Warren Hill and Willie Mae McClesky on March 17, 1945 in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia. Inmate stated that when he was three years of age his mother married John Brooks and that four children were born to this union. He further stated that he got along very well with his stepfather who was an excellent family provider. The stepfather was employed as a laundry worker. McClesky remained with his mother and stepfather until he married at the age of eighteen. On April 12, 1963, subject claims to have married Gwendolyn Carmichael in Atlanta, Georgia and that one child was born to this union. McClesky has no previous military record. VI. SCHOOL HISTORY: Verified information indicates that the subject was graduated from Lemon Street High School in Marietta, Georgia on June l, 1964. The subject was rated by the assistant principal of this school as being an average student scholastically and that his extra curricular activities included being a member of the football and track teams. VII. WORK HISTORY: Verified information indicates that the subject was employed as a tool crib man for Lockheed Aircraft Company in Marietta, Georgia from October 1, 1964 until July 23, 1970. McClesky was rated by his supervisor as being a satisfactory worker worth considering for reemployment. Subject claims to have earned $500.00 per month during the time he worked for said firm and that this has been his only employment. VIII. PRESENT SITUATION: McClesky's wife and daughter presently reside in Atlanta where the wife is employed as an IBM keypunch operator, earning approximate- ly $500.00 per month. Subject plans to return to Atlanta if paroled and continue working for the Lockheed Aircraft Company. This individual requests to be assigned to a correctional institution in or near Fulton County wbere his wife can visit him regularly. IX. SPECIAL SKILLS: Subject has experience as a tool cri —man - for Lockheed ircraft Corporation. CARAS I DEC > 11270 | SES a p i s w a VY , ; & £ @ X. TEST RESULTS: Otis Quick-Scoring Beta Test administered November 25, 1970 -- IQ 78. MMPI administered the same date profiled: 9 24 - 57 80 / 136: KFL/?:. SAT Intermediate administered November 26, 1970 was 6.2 and scored: Arithmetic Computation 6.4, Arithmetic Concepts 6.3, Arithmetic Applications 7.5, Word Meaning 7.0, Paragraph Meaning 5.7, Spelling 7.1, Word Study Skills 2.1, Language 6.0, Social Studies 5.8, Science 6.4. GATB administered December 15, 1970 scored: 87, 82, 106, 82, 92, 104, 112, 97, 134. XI. EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL NEEDS: The subject desires no further educational training even though he is functioning at the sixth grade level. Vocationally, he seems highly interested in brick masonry and states that if he is allowed to receive training in this area, he plans to utilize brick masonry as a side-line job on the outside if he is granted a parole. It is recommended that McClesky be given an opportunity to receive formal training in the area of brick masonry. XII. MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT: This individual is in good physical condition. I see no limitation as to the type of work that he can perform. This individual is functioning at average level of intelligence. Views self as well adjusted and self-reliant. Moderate depression, worries and pessimism. Inclines toward esthetic interests. Has sufficient capacity of organizing work and personal life. Has a combination of practical and theoretical interests. Few somatic complaints. Little concern about bodily health. Tough minded. Respects opinions of others without undue sensitivity. The Bender Gestalt Test fails to reveal any organicity on the part of this individual. The House, Tree, Person Test reveals concrete thinking. There appears to be an adequate conceptualization on the part of this subject. XIII. CORRECTIONAL OFFICER'S REPORT: McClesky has adjusted well. He does as he is told, stays out of trouble and gets along with other inmates. An overall rating of good was assigned. XIV. RELIGION: This individual is non-baptized but attends the Baptist denomi- nation or faith. His church attendance in the past five years has been frequently. As a youth he attended church frequently. The religious inventory suggests truthfulness with himself and a weak ethic and value system or pattern. The religious inventory suggests weak behavior and experience patterns. Overall he has weak concepts of religion. Presently he is interested in religion. He has a weak religious background. @ ‘ The religious inventory suggests the following general areas of concern: Feeling toward the future is optimistic, with wholesome expressions of hope and an attitude that things will be better, that God cares and the future holds oppor- tunity. Problems of finitude or his existence are met with personal despair. Responses indicate disappointment, loss or failure, have been absorbed with little or no awareness of similar experiences in others. He feels alone and that God singles him out and is punishing him. Judgment is externa- lized. The source of direction is in contemporaries, in what others think. Language describing the nature of God seems similar to that describing a spouse or friend. His assess- ment of worth and achievement comes from without and/or is generalized, suggesting being easily led or manipulated by others. Relationships and interaction with others are isolated. Religious experiences are primarily individual in nature. Participation in the life of the religious community is peripheral and/or minimal, suggesting inability to relate meaningfully with others. Religious group counseling is recommended. XV. CLASSIFICATION OFFICER'S IMPRESSION: McClesky was highly cooperative in answering all questions during the interview setting. It is my impression that he appears to be of low intelligence and extremely ill motivated, possibly due to his social and educational background and even though he has completed high school, I feel McClesky could more than likely function at a higher level with additional education on a remedial level if he would take advantage of the training. Subject seems to be quite mature but shows some signs of low esteem. Inmate appears to have made a suitable adjustment to prison life since his arrival at this institution and I get the impression that he is the type who would avoid conflict with prison personnel by not allowing himself to be involved in misconduct nor by posing a security problem. McClesky denies the use of drugs or narcotics and excessive use of alcoholic beverages. He stated that he has experienced marihuana on one occasion just to see what it was like. Subject claims that he has never committed a homosexual act. Inmate denies being guilty of armed robbery (three counts) which led to his imprisonment and claims that he has filed for an appeal which is set for January 5, 1971. He feels certain that if he is granted an appeal, he will be found not guilty. Subject's overall adjustment in prison is regarded as being good. Initial Interview by S. Nelson Admission Summary by G. The Work Release Program is under the administrative control of the Georgia Department of Offender Rehabilitation. The Board has requested that you be transferred to this program when space is available. The Department of Offender Rehabilitation will inform the Board when you are transferred. If the Department of Offender Rehabilitation is unable to place you in the requested program, the Board will reconsider its decision in your case. Should you fail to successfully camplete this program, your case will be referred back to the Board and you will be notified of any decision made by the Board. If you successfully camplete the program, the Board will review the evaluation submitted by the Department of Offender Rehabilitation and will at that time make a final decision regarding your release. Due to limited bed space in this program, a delay in transferring you could occur. Betty Jean Myers 1064 James Street Marietta, Georgia 30060 Re: Warren McClesky, D-3935 Dear Mrs. Myers: This is in response to your letter of Xarch 21, 1974, concerning a transfer for Nr. McClesky. I regret to advise you that the decision to transfer Warren to Georgia State Prison cannot be reconsidered at this time. A great deal of trust had been placed in Warren during the past. He demonstrated by his actions at Stone Mountain that he was not worthy of such trust. Transfer was necessary since his trusty status was revoked. Georgia State Prison was the proper reassignment due to the multiplicity and violence of his present offenses coupled with an earliest release date of 1980. I regret that I cannot be of further assistance in this matter. Your request will be made a permanent part of Warren's file for later study. Sincerely, NM. E. MacDougall, Director State Board of Correction Room 815 TOE Serie Trinity-Washington Building 2383 2.40 meee Atlanta, Georgia 30334 : EERE. : y/ ET Dear Sir: {LU p— i I represented Warren McClesky as his attorney in three charges of armed robbery in Douglas County in September, 1970. Upon the trial of the case he was given three concurrent life sentences. A motion for new trial was granted and subsequent thereto a plea was entered and a sentence of 18 years was given to serve from the date he was apprehended on July 23rd, 1970. Between the time he was originally sentenced and resentenced, he was serving his sentence at ‘Stone Mountain where we requested that he be allowed to serve his period of confinement. After the new sentence was imposed upon him on December 9, 1971, he was sent to Pulaski Correctional Institution where he is now located. Warren and member$ _ of his family have requested me to contact your office and determine if he could be returned to Stone Mountain where he had originally began his sentence, while there he had the opportunity to occasionally see his wife, child and other members of his family. I understand he has had an excellent record thus far, and in my considered judgment he will serve the remainder of his sentence without any difficulty to anyone. 1 know it is the policy of the Board of Corrections under your guidance to place inmates as near to their homes as possible in order to allow inmates families to visit them and I am hopeful this can be done in this case. } I will appreciate you investigating this request and I shall await your reply.
