the triaL Ln Whitfield v. Cllnton. Your line aboutItdirty lawsr was a blg hit. The district court hasnrt
yet ruled, and I'm not that optlnistic about what Judge
Eisele will ho).d, but I remain convinced that
ultiuately we'Il uin.

l{e're now looking at bringing a challenge to the
Iegislative districting in eastern Arkansas--again, ln
Phil}Lps, lae, and Monroe Counties. I{e think it ehould
be posslble to draw a dLstrl.ct ln whlch the black
communlty has a reasonable chance to elect its
preferred candidate.

Part of our prelininary tork involves examining
how district lines are arrived at. In thLs regard,
Penda HaLr from our D.C. office would like to speak
with you. I told her I would write a letter of
introduction for her, so that her call would not spring
out of the blue. She is Likely to call you rome time
next week.

I hope this case works out. I, for one, would
gladly bring a case anlmhere in Arkansas to have an
excuse to come by your barbecue.
