Mr, John Doar, Assistant Attorney General 
US Deaprtment of Justice 
Washington, D, C. 

Request immediate investigation of beating of Mr, A, D, Lewis, 

306 West Mann Street, Carthage, Mississippi, resulting in internal 

injury and face, head and chest injuries on Christmas Eve, as he 

walked in downtown Carthage. Attacked from behind by man, whom 

he had never seen. Police officers Ted Hogue, Clyde Greer and 

Chris McNeese witnessed attack and stood by for approximately 

ten minutes, while Lewis was beaten, despite Lewis! attempts to 

get away, and request that officers stop fight. Attacker 

continued to hit Lewis in police car and in police station in 

presence of officers. Lewis charged with assault and battery. 

Called FBI Christmas Eve, no response.
