This matter came on for a status conference before
Judges Fred J. Cassibry and Robert F. Collins on June 23,
1982. Counsel present were:
R. James Kellogg and Steven Scheckman
for the plaintiffs,
Martin L.C. Feldman, Robert A. Kutcher,
Kenneth C. DeJean, and David R. Poynter
for the defendants.
WHEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
1) Plaintiffs shall submit to the Court, not
later than July 12, 1982, memoranda on the issue of the
appiicability of the newly enacted 1982 Voting Rights Act,
and the defendants shall submit responding memoranda not
later than July 19, 1982. If a hearing is necessary, it
will be held on July 21, 1982-a¢ 10:00 a.m.;
2) All amendments to the pleadings shall be
submitted on or before July 15, 1982;
3) Counsel for the parties shall file in the
record and serve upon their opponents a list of all witnesses
who may or will be called to testify at trial not later than
July 15, 1982;
4) All pretrial motions shall be filed and
served in sufficient time to permit hearing on or before
July 21, 1982;

5) Written reports of experts who may be
witnesses shall be obtained and exchanged by the parties
on or before July 23, 1982;
6) All discovery shall be completed not later
than July 30, 1982;
7) A final pretrial conference will be held
before the Court on August 9, 1982 at 10:00 a.m. At that
conference a Pretrial Order will be prepared and submitted
in accordance with attached pretrial notice;
8) Trial on the merits of plaintiffs' claims
of malapportionment of Congressional Districts shall commence
on August 16, 1982 at 10:00 a.m. before the Three-Judge
Court, sitting without a jury.
