Cnited States Department of Justice WASHINGTON, D.C. 20530 ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL Mr. Eric Schnapper Suite 2030 10 Columbus Circle New York, New York Dear Eric: Thank you for your letter regarding City of Mobile v. Bolden, No. 77-1844 and Williams Vv. Brown, No. 78-357. The United States filed an amicus brief in Bolden in the Fifth Circuit, and I am enclosing a copy for your information. While we have had access to the Bolden record, we have not yet seen the Williams record. We are currently reviewing both cases in order to decide whether to recommend to the Solicitor General that we file in the Supreme Court. In the course of that review we may have occasion to take advantage of your kind offer to provide us materials relating to the cases. I appreciate your calling these cases to our attention and your offer of help. One of the Appellate Section attorneys who are assigned to these cases will be in touch with you shortly. Sincerely, Mw Drew S. Days, III Assistant Attorney General Civil Rights Division
