Statement by Jack Greenberg, August 28, 1969

We view today's ruling as exceedingly unfortunate. Experience

shows that the hallmark of successful integration is clarity,

consistency, and speed. Today's ruling make at the petition of

the United States will contribute to delay and confusion.

Segregationist school boards across the South will all now be

demanding the same treatment.

We hope that this is an isolated situation and not indicative

of a trend.
