Re: Voting Rights Suits in l"tississippi

Dear Victor:

This letter is a follow up to Napoleon Williams'
letters of August 1 and August 5, 1983. LDF intends to be
supportive of your voting rights litigation efforts in
Mississippi. To expedite matters as well as to clear any
obstacles which have arise, I Propose a meeting to discuss
the details of specific cases in which you need assistance.
Since you are willing to meet Napoleon, Lani, and myself in
New York, a meeting here at LDF's office appears to be the
best place for the meeting. The Legal Defense Pund, of
course, will pay for your airfare.

Please call my secretary or Napoleon to arrange a
convenient time for Ehe meeting. In advance of the meeti.g,
you should mail us copies of the relevant pleadings, orders,
motions, briefs r ot proposed plans in each of the cases
concerned as well aS your estimates for proposed budgets in
the cases. We will probably be able to resolve aII of the
outstanding issues if the budget estimates include separate
enLries for court costS, exPert witness fees, travel expenses
and legal printing. With this information in handr w€ will
be able to address each of your various needs and hopefully
reach an accommodaEion satisfactory to all.

f appreciate your continuing work in voting rights and
civil rights generally, and look forward to working with you.

S i ncere 1y ,

Jack Greenberg
Director Counsel
