I FE NAACP LEGAL DEFENSE AND EDUCATIONAL FUND, INC. egal ‘efense lund 10 Columbus Circle, New York, N.Y. 10019 * JUdson 6-8397 MEMORANDUM TO: NEGRO PRESS FROM: Jesse DeVore, Director of Public Information RE: LDF ASSERTS NIXON ADMINISTRATION HAS POLICY OF CONFUSION ON SCHOOL INTEGRATION The Nixon Administration's school integration policy “has been deliberately confusing, or at best incredibly inept." This is part of the report on a southern school integration assessment by staff members of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educa- tional Fund, Inc. (LDF). This comprehensive report, which we enclose, is based on communi- cations with more than 100 southern communities facing school integration problems. It was presented this week in New York City by LDF Director- Counsel Jack Greenberg. “Federal government zigzags reflect the intense southern political pressure," he asserted. A detailed calendar of the chronology of events has been compiled and is attached. =30= NOTE: Please bear in mind that the LDF is a completely separate and distinct organization even though we were established by the NAACP and those initials are retained in our name. Our correct designation is NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., frequently shortened to LDF. Contributions are deductible for U. S. income tax purposes
