MEMORANDUM
TO: North Carolina Reapportionment Group
FROM: Steve Suitts
RE: Assignments and Next Meeting DATE: January 19, 1982

While the trip to the airport in Julius' Mercedes
did not include all the principals, we did get enough of an agree-
ment on the next date and time of our meeting in Charlotte to
settle the question, unless there is principled objections. We
will be meeting on Wednesday, February 17th, at 12:00 Noon in
Julius' office.

Regrettably, snow on the landscape of Atlanta has
delayed our meeting with Peter Harkins, although I trust that we
will have met him by the time the post brings you this note.

The weather has also delayed the arrival of the census
data for Hoke Robeson, so that we will not be able to produce some
hypothetical, single-member districts in that area for consideration
by Justice on the original schedule.

Rain, shine, or snow, we'll try to have something by
the 18th.

Other assignments from our last meeting are as follows:

Leslie is preparing a motion for summary judgment
relating to the Senate and Congressional plans;

Napoleon is preparing a memo that will show
us all how this case is going to be argued and won;

Julius is contacting a reputable historian; and
I am beginning to have someone go through the
SRC files and clippings to amass an essay on racial

discrimination in North Carolina.

While I'm sure we'll talk from time to time before then,
I look to see you on Wednesday, the 17th of February.

S.T.S.
