Dear Mr. Lucas:

The following is in response to your letter of Aoril 7,
1972 requesting information on the transportation of Grosse Pointe students.

The Grosse Pointe Public School System neither owns nor
leases any buses. In order to provide transportation for aoproxi-
mately 114 special education students who are resident in the
district, however, the School System has contracted with the Eastside Cab Co. for such services.

Eastside Cab Co. transports one (1) physically handicapped
student by taxicab. The remaining students (physicallv handicaoced,
mentally handicapped and emotionally disturbed)", are transported"
using "bus vans" with a seating capacity of from 13 to 18 in each
bus. A total of 8 such "bus vans" are used by Eastside Cab Co.
to provide such service. The total combined mileage per day is
375 miles, and the total cost during the 1971-1972 school year
was $57,132.00. Estimated State of Michigan reimbursement is $22,400.00. ........

The latest summary taken by the School System indicated
that approximately 1,200 middle school and high school students
use the public transportion facilities of SEMTA. They nay 30£ one way within the school district. " '
