AN ALT'IU ALIOW SANITARY DISflTIL-Iti'TU PROVIDE RES(;UE
SERVICES, AND LEVY A TAX THEREFOR.
Whereas, cities, counties, fire districts, and sanitary districts are all
authorized to provide fire protection; and
Whereas, G.S. l60A'209(cX4) authorizes citie's to l'und rercue squads; and
Whereas, G.S. l53A 149(cX5) authorizs countic to fund rescue squads;
and
whereas. c.s.69-25.4, as unrerrded by chapter 217, licssirxr [,uws of l{ltll,
allows fire districts to fund rescue squads; Now' therefore'
The Generul Assembly of North (hrolina enacts:
Section f . C.S. 130-128 is amended by adding a new suborrtion to read:
..(l3a). To provide rescue services, defined as to establish a rescue squad. to
provide ambulance service, rescue service, or other emergency medical seryices,
Lr to contract with cities, counties, other governmental units, or any
incorporated nonprofit votunteer or cotnmunity rescue squad tg furrrish such
s€rvice for use in the district. The sanitary district shall be subject to G.S.
l53A-250."
Sec. 2. G.S. 130-128(14) is amended by inserting in each place after "fire
protectiort", the words "or rescue scrvicr:s".
Sec. 3. G.S. 130-128(15) is amended by adding after the words "fire
protection", the words "and rescue scrvices".-
Sec. 4. This act is effective upon ratification'

APPOR'IION SEATS IN THE SENATE AMONG DISTRIC'TS.
The General A*embly of North Carolina enacts:
section 1. G.S. 120-l is hcreby deleted und the following inserted in lieu
thereo[:
..0 120-1. senalors.-Por the purpose ol nominating and electing membcrs of
the tjenate irr 1982 atrd every two yearu thereafter, senatorial districts are
established and seats in the Senate are apportioned among those districts as
lollows:
District I shatl consist of Beaufort, Bertie, camden, chowan, currituck,
t)are, Gutes, llertford, llyde, Northanrpton, Pusquotank, I'erquimarrs, Tyrrell.
and Washington Counties and shall elect two Senators.
District 2 shall consist of Carteret, Cravetl, and Pamlico Grunties and shall
elect one Senator.
District 3 shatt consist ofOnslow County and shall elect one Senator.
District 4 shall consist of New Hanover and Pender Countiee and shall elect
one Senator.

one lienator.
District I I shall consist ol'Cumberland County and shall elect two Senators.
District l2 shall consist of Bladen, Brunswick, and Columbus Counties and
shall elect one lienator.
