    MEMORANDUM

TO: Caldwell, Chachkin, Dimond, Flannery, Jones, Lucas, McCroom
and Penn

FROM: Sandy Bailey
RE: Detroit Files
DATE: June 2, 1972

The Detroit materials (exhibits; transcripts, data, pleadings,
briefs, etc.) have been organized and filed into 2_5 covered
cartons, °Pen cartons (for oversized materials) and 1 trunk.
Bill Penn and I are going to add "pack-horses" to our vitas!

The enclosed list will provide a general ouline of what is
available where and should be used as a table of contents for
the indexes. Each index is a list of what is in each box -
folder by folder; exhibit by exhibit and transcript by transcript.
From now on either Kimmy Jones or Bill Penn will be able to "f^nd
whatever you need in a matter of minutes (or even seconds.)
Kimmy, a member of the Detroit NAACP office, has taken over the
filing and typing of the indexes and expects to mail them to
you next week. As you look over the indexes please note any
glaring or nonglaring omissions and, if you have copies of those
documents, please send to Kimmy for filing. Of course, the above
also works in reverse.

A copy of each index is taped to the lid of its carton; plus,
I ’ve color-coded (a Lamson suggestion) the boxes, i.e., the
color on the index sheet is also on the outside of the box and
somewhere on each file within the box.

The maps and overlays are still in Judge Roth's office. Perhaps
Bill Lamson could arrange to spend some time preserving and storing

One other matter: You will also notice among the indexes a more
legible copy of the first page to the Proposed Conclusions of Law
for Detroit, July, 1971. If you have a clear copy already, you're
the one to whom Lucas gave the original.!

If you have any questions, suggestions or criticisms, you can
reach me the month of June and probably most of July at the
Harvard Center for Law & Education in Cambridge.

Cheers,

BRADLEY v. MILLION
