RESOLUTION PASSED BY THE
CHARLOTTE.BLACK POLITICAL CAUCUS
ON SATURDAY, JULY 23, 1983
RESOLVED:
Whereas, many white voters of Mecklenburg County
have been unwilling to support qualified black candidates
and, ‘
Whereas, many black candidates supported by the
black community have run for the General Assembly and lost,
and
Whereas, black people in Mecklenburg County are
under-represented in the General Assembly and do not
have enough representatives who can speak for the serious
problems confronting our communities,
We, the Charlotte Black Political Caucus, hereby
State our position in favor of single—member districts
for Mecklenburg County.
