With its long record of successful attacks on southern jury discri- mination, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), will appear at a hearing on Friday, March 6, in the U.S. District Court in Camden, New Jersey in the first legal action against juyy discrimination in the North.
LDF attorney James N. Finney, representing Negro residents in Atlantic City, will appear before Judge Mitchell H. Cohen contending jury discrimination on the part of jury officials in Atlantic County as follows:
* deliberate and systematic exclusion or limitation by defendants of Negro citizens within the county because of race. * failure by defendants to acquaint themselves with Negro citizens in county to the same extent to which they acquaint themselves with whites.
* the board of elections’ Practice of listing all registered voters by the symbols "c" or “w" on all offécial registered voter records the only source from which the names of potential jurors are selected.
