Re: Gingles v. Edmisten

Dear Jim:

In mid June we reached an agreement to provide election and
registration data for specified North Carolina counties to
Dr. Thomas Hoffler for use in Gingles v. Edmisten. We were
to provide the data in the form specified by Dr. Hoffler.

You agreed to pay us $3,000 for this data which covered one
half of the cost of compiling it plus the additional cost

of putting it into a form usable by Dr. Hoffler. Dr. Hoffler
received the data as soon as it was available in ”clean”
(error proof) form on June 24 for Durham and Wake Counties,
on July 1 for Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties, and on
July 11 for Mecklenburg and Forsyth Counties. Dr. Grofman
reports that he had a telephone conversation with Dr.

Hoffler in early July and a discussion in North Carolina
during the trial in which Dr. Hoffler indicated that the date
arrived in good form.

I would appreciate your expediting payment to us for this
data.

If you have any questions, give me a call. Thanks.
Sincerely,

Leslie J. Winner
