court that an extension is needed for the following reasonss

(1) That the Cavanagh plaintiffs' Motion for Summary

Judgment and supporting memorandum took more than the assumed

three days to reach all parties entitred to service thereof;
(21 That the period during which Defendants have had

the opportunity to work on their response and cross-motion

has included the Christmas and New yearrs holidays;
(3) That the need for coordination and mailing documents

between Washington counsel and the Office of the Attorney

General of North Carolina has consrunmed additional time; and

(4) That certain technical difficulties have arisen.

Attorneys for Plaintiffs in Cavanagh consent to the

extension requested herein.

WHEREFORE, the Defendants request the court to grant

an extension of time through and to Wednesday, January 19, 1983,

for the Defendants to file a Response to Motion for Summary

Judgment, a cross-motion for sunmary judgrment, and a support-

ing memorandum.
